My First Pattern Offering!

Image
It was very flattering to receive the requests for a pattern for my Socktoberfest socks. I jotted down more notes as I did the second sock, and edited as much as I can, and so, here it is: Maple Sugar Socks. You can contact me at the email addy under my profile and I will email you a copy of the pattern. (I haven't been able to get a clickable link working-yet, something is mucked up with my "publish to the web" wizard!) I was the only test knitter for this, so please, if there are any errors, let me know and I'll make corrections. If any of you do get these made up, I would love to see the finished results. Maybe you could send a photo and I can post them. Thanks again for the warm response - made my week!
NOTE: I listed some knitting, craft and other items at "My Virtual Garage Sale", just click the link to to the right if you want to take a peek)

We Now Interrupt This Knitting Blog...

For comment on the rampant stupidity of current Canadian politics and who should really apologize to whom. What do you think gals? Should Belinda apologize to us? And does she need a lesson about what "Chicks With Sticks" means? It ain't hockey sticks Ms. S.

Is there a war in Afghanistan? Lax criminal laws in our country? Nuclear nutjobs loose in the world? For the love of God parliament, have her (I do mean HER, apologize) and get on with running the country!

(Thanks Tammy - I almost got a detention for laughing so much!) :)

Whew! That was not the best week, but it's done now. Knitting? Got none. Well... maybe a little, but I offer some October in Ottawa pictures to distract you from the lack of knitting content. The picture on the left is one of the many walking paths in my neighborhood. My Fall Cable KAL project has seen quite a bit of work - I'll probably pick up the collar this weekend and start the sleeves. I've been working hardest at my Socktoberfest socks, a few people had expressed interest in the pattern, so I'm jotting notes as I do up the second sock and hopefully, next week I'll have a pdf of the design for whoever may like to knit them up. My Six Sox "Dragon Scales" are coming along too - the colour was a bit much to face this week (migraine) but I'll finish sock one during movie night tonight. Mostly, it's been all about the Yarn Porn this week (cue bad 70's guitars). I really didn't think I had bought much this month - it all just kinda showed…

WIP Wednesday - A Little Yarn Porn...

A little progress to show for my week... If you'd like details, click the picture and it will take you to the Fall Cable KAL post. I'm having some fun with this sock design thing (picture below) and having to do with all things sock and Socktoberfest; my project photos, along with some other very talented Socktoberfest knitters, were featured in an article about Socktoberfest in the online newspaper NowPublic. The article is here if you'd like to read it: http://www.nowpublic.com/what_is_socktoberfest. This KAL has participants on every continent except Antarctica - I guess 'cause flippers and knitting needles don't mix! My family and friends were rather underwhelmed by my excitement - I'm glad there are knitters online :). The Schoeller Stahl jacket has been rehabilitated and I think with success (pic below). Again, thanks for all the comments and suggestions - I was tempted to just stash it in the closet and never look at the damn thing again - I really hate…

This is a late night shot of some of the Autumn fog we've been seeing lately - kinda puts you in a Halloween frame of mind doesn't it? I have a knitting update at the Fall Cable KAL here. The Socktoberfest socks are coming along nicely - I'll post some photos next week.
I might have accidentally mislead some of you about my first socks - they aren't still around, that I know of! Everything prior to those purple fairisles below were orphans, gifted or never-finished. The real socks and real sock-mania started about 8 years ago.
I'm posting a picture below of my Elann Sierra Aran, the colour is "Italian Plum" and the heathers are so subtle, it's absolutely gorgeous (I want more of this stuff!). Knitting up in my cable project like a dream. Which is good, I have been having bad knitting karma the last couple of weeks. Hm-m-m... maybe I should try crochet?

Lolly had a mini-questionnaire on her blog pertaining to Socktoberfest. As promised and without further ado, here are my answers:

When did you start making socks?
I think I was about 8 years old.

Did you teach yourself or were you taught by a friend or relative? or in a class?
My Grandma Tupper started me off, and I relearned on my own using her old Patons leaflets.

What was your first pair? How have they "held up" over time?
That were a finished pair and wearable :)? A self-striping Regia with contrast cuff, toe and heel - still wearing them :).

What would you have done differently?
'Nuffin.

What yarns have you particularly enjoyed?
Jawoll, any Regia, Fleece Artist merino sock and Lorna's Laces and several different Indie hand-dyers and hand-spinners.

Do you like to crochet your socks? or knit them on DPNs, 2 circulars, or using the Magic Loop method?
I rarely crochet anymore, I'm a die-hard dpn girl but am teaching myself 2 circulars for Socktoberfest.

Which kind of heel do…

I don't have much to show for my week, in knitting that is. At school, however, I've been working like a mad thing to learn a new legal software - my brain hurts! So, I started Socktoberfest promptly, with two projects. My 2 socks on 2 circulars is on the left - although a little awkward to change my tried and true dpn method, I can see really enjoying this technique, once I have it down pat. My other project is a little more fun - I'm doing another original design, in some wonderful Cabin Cove sock yarn that's been mellowing in the stash for a few months. Other KAL progress? None - my tweed project just didn't look nice - I'm not sure if it's any one thing - but I've ordered a different yarn and hopefully, it will look better. The silky wool is going back to the closet to wait on a more suitable pattern. My cable was going to be the same project - but I've changed my mind on that one too. My elann sierra aran just arrived a few minutes ago, and I&…
